Originally recorded and released in the Peruvian city Pucallpa during 1972, the album is titled after the band leader’s nickname. “El Gran Cacique” is considered the first Amazonic Peruvian Cumbia LP that achieved mainstream
success all over Peru and Latin America thanks for its iconic psychedelic sound. It contains the group’s hit ‘Mujer Hilandera’ featuring Wilindoro Cacique, as well as ‘Vacilando con Ayahuasca’ a magical electric guitar driven instrumental cumbia performed by Noe Fachín. El Gran Cacique has been remastered from the original tapes for this first reissue, with new artwork created by Peruvian collage – master Yerko Zlatar, which re invents the original cover.
