Released on Elektra Records in 1967, Clear Light is the one and only album from the homonymous Los Angeles-based band that briefly burned bright during the psychedelic explosion. Produced by the legendary Paul A. Rothchild — the visionary behind The Doors, Love, and Tim Buckley, among others — the album is a heady mix of acid rock, mystical lyrics, and powerful instrumentation, including a rare dual-drummer setup. From the haunting “Mr. Blue” (a psychedelic version of a folk song written by Tom Paxton) to the fiery “Black Roses,” Clear Light captures the spirit of a generation pushing musical boundaries. With its lush production, dynamic shifts, and surreal edge, it stands as a hidden treasure of the West Coast psych scene, and a reminder of the golden age of psychedelia.
